Module 2.8: Identity and Hope

This video explores the impact of personal identity (self-image) and self-talk on hope and self-sabotage. It is not unusual for those caught on the Cycle of Reactivity to find themselves developing both negative self-talk and a sense that they are unable to meet other’s expectations. We discuss ways to address “stinking thinking” and take incremental steps toward a positive identity of hope and possibility.

Collaborative Questions:

Do the children and young people that you work with have a sense of hope for the future?

Have you ever witnessed a young person sabotage their gains and successes?

Have you heard a child or young person speak to themselves in a derogatory way? How can you address this?

Do you have self-talk habits or aspects of your self-image (identity) that could do with a shift in a more positive direction?
