Module 1.3: The Cycle of Reactivity

This video introduces Reboot’s Cycle of Reactivity and explores the complexity that can arise when working with young people that are experiencing one or more of a combination of childhood trauma, complex needs and/or poverty. Each element of the Cycle of Reactivity and possible circuit breakers are discussed.

Collaborative Questions:

  • Have you worked with children, young people, families or communities impacted by the effects of complex trauma, poverty and complex needs? How does the intersection of these impact individual behaviour?
  • Using the Cycle of Reactivity sheet, can you outline the cycle for an individual young person?
  • How might this insight support your development of a support plan with a young person?
  • What skills or areas would you like to learn more about to support your work with complex cases?
  • What ‘Wild Brain feeding’ strategies might you employ proactively to support calm and in response to need with clients?
