Module 1.5: Trauma transformative practice

This video introduces trauma transformative practice by enhancing an individual’s protective factors, support networks and skills while reducing risk factors. Aligned with the Cycle of Reactivity, the importance of key developmental tasks (self-regulation, agency formation and problem-solving skills, hope, healthy relationship skills and positive learner/social identity) are addressed.

Collaborative Questions:

  • In a 2-column table under the headings of Risk and Protective Factors, can you draw up a list of the risk and protective factors impacting on the wellbeing and engagement of a client?
  • Which of the above risk factors are you able to support a young person/family to reduce or remove?
  • Which of the above protective factors can you enhance with a young person or family?
  • How might you establish relationships or longer-term situations to enable the ongoing development of these above protective factors?
