Video #1 Create Calm – Proactive
Create Calm is the first step of Reboot’s 7-Step Framework. This video introduces X classroom and individual support strategies to proactively create calm. These Create Calm Reboot strategies address core Wild and Emotional Brain needs, including felt and psychological safety, routine, rhythm, predictability, connection and belonging. We explore the creation of low stress physical spaces and learning environments, identifying and minimising triggers, the importance of adult calm to effectively co-regulate, fostering stress awareness through 3 Brains’ psycho-education, felt versus assumed safety and using ‘bottom-up’ and ‘top-down’ self-regulation methods as a preventative and as-needed. We finish with a Create Calm audit, identifying potential Wild and Emotional Brain triggers and plan how you might proactively address Wild Brains needs and support young people to initiate their own self-regulation.

Video #3 Create Calm – Responsive
As an adult we carry a disproportionate influence on the feelings and behaviour of the children and young people that we live and work with. We can use our position strategically to reduce stress levels and challenging behaviour or react in frustration and panic and thereby increase our counterparts’ stress. In this video we investigate the difference between reacting and responding, and describe the actions most effective to reduce stress and the cycle of reactive behaviour. We introduce 4 strategies to contain and co-regulate tricky emotions and the Success @ School Plan, designed to identify and reduce triggers while also building individual self-regulatory capacity.

Video #4 Create Calm – Reparative
The final step in Creating Calm focuses on the importance of relationship repair post incident. Often a learner will return with an attitude of defiance or shame, both reducing the quality of relationships and the capacity and willingness to engage in new behaviours and learning. In this video we introduce practical strategies to debrief with an individual or a group post event, support reflection on the antecedents and consequences and how these might be addressed, undertake restorative justice and mediation conversations, enact community-orientated service and support an individual to build their self-regulatory capacity. We finish with the Create Calm Checklist and Action Plan to introduce and embed proactive, responsive and reparative strategies into your classroom or home.
